Tenuun Gerel Construction LLC announces the completion of a 16.4 solar power plant in Khushig Khundii, Sergelen soum, Tuv province, Mongolia with partners including the Sharp Energy Solutions Corporation and Sermsang Power Corporation.
The power plant is located approximately 14 km southwest of the New Ulaanbaatar International Airport, which is currently under construction. This new power plant will be able to supply electricity to the new airport and suburban areas of Ulaanbaatar.
This solar power plant was selected as one of the Joint Crediting Mechanism (JCM)’s model project supported within the cooperation between the Government of Mongolia and Japan. As of today, the total of 8 projects dealing with renewable energy use and energy efficiency have been implementing in Mongolia in the framework of JCM.
The 16.4 MW solar power plant will generate 23,134 MWh per year, thus allowing reduction of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions of 18,438 t-CO2 per year.
The Government of Mongolia aims to have renewable energy account for 30% of the country’s energy mix by 2030, contributing to the target of a 14% drop in greenhouse gas emissions compared to a business as usual scenario.
